Welcome
Community Based Solutions is a DBHDS state licensed provider for adults with intellectual disabilities. We currently have group homes located in Chesapeake and Norfolk, VA. Day Program located in Chesapeake, VA.
Our homes provide a community based congregate living setting with no more than 4 individuals in each home. Individuals receive assistance and specialized supervision according to their individual support needs and preferences.
Each individual is encouraged to become as independent as possible while building daily life skills to increase self-esteem and improved quality of life.
It is our belief that every individual should claim their place in the community they live in. We are passionate about the services we provide and never compromise our standards or values. Our daily goal is to do all that we can to support the community interactions of each individual we serve.

Joseph Calhoun Graduated from Norfolk State University, with a degree in Psychology and concentration in Special Education. He has worked in providing support to those individuals with Mental Health Diagnosis and Intellectual Disabilities for over 15 years. Throughout his career he has worked with various community based programs such as the New York State Psychiatric Hospital and South Eastern Virginia Training Center for a total of 11 years. In addition to serving as a Support Coordinator with a local Community Service Board, his experience combined with his education and certification as a training instructor in behavior techniques, Therapeutic Options (TOVA), has provided him the knowledge, expertise, and skills to manage the most difficult behaviors.
Joseph welcomes challenges and constantly trains, conducts research, and educates himself and staff. He strives to exceed the standards in providing the best quality and support his clients need. In all his experience and achievements, He prides himself in being an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated.

Our mission is to offer 24 hour ID residential services to individuals with a need for support in activities of daily living, independent living skills, recreational and leisure activities, sensory integration and social skills to improve their quality of life.
